HAPPY VALLEY WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE 2019-2020 ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.

SCHOOL EVENTS ARE CANCELED.

Dear Lafayette School District Community:

This afternoon, a joint press release announced, "With the support and collaboration of the public health officers in their respective counties, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and San Francisco county superintendents announced the decision to extend the campus closures to students through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. All schools will continue to transition from in-person classroom instruction to at-home and distance learning formats." You can read the full press release here

Based on this information, the Lafayette School District school sites will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic school year. While we have anticipated this, I know this news is deeply disappointing.

Although our physical campuses will not reopen, District staff will continue to support students in a virtual learning environment and deliver distance learning to provide academic learning, social connection, and some degree of normalcy for the students and families of our school communities.

Social Distancing

"We know that social distancing is the most powerful weapon in slowing the spread of COVID-19," said Dr. Chris Farnitano, health officer for Contra Costa County. "As hard as it is to extend school closures, we know that it is critical to protecting the health and safety of all residents of Contra Costa County and the Bay Area in general." We anticipate a surge in COVID-19 cases and intense pressure on our healthcare system in the coming weeks. For the health of our community, our healthcare workers, and the effectiveness of our school closure, please do your part to isolate as a family unit.

Thank you for the continuous support as our community navigates through this unprecedented challenge together. Your positive messages, encouragement, feedback and input to staff are appreciated.

Best regards,

Richard Whitmore

Superintendent
